a first person narrative,
in the cadence of the mind,
the actual metric of the everyday,
of songs that I sing to myself,
in an adopted language...
checkered low-top Vans,
seemingly out of place,
maybe his boat shoes were misplaced,
forty-something van driver,
not much older than me,
but miles away otherwise...
longstanding, unchanging,
as days drag past,
same place, same feelings,
this is now baseline,
has been for years...
unloosen the constant focus,
my endless obsessing,
always thinking of the negative,
no escape, no alternative,
must take life as it comes,
only in the moment,
only in the now.
all focus and thinking,
and nothing else,
a pathway to sanity,
tackle the rest in increments,
in stages, not overwhelm, overtake,
only here, only now,
every moment one at a time from here.
