Sun shines brightly taunting me,
Only weeks away now,
As long as the rains hold,
Concrete is dry-encrusted with chalky rock salt,
The thaw will start within days,
Toxins washing into the river,
Washing away my despair,
My winter blues-
I’ve been tightening my bolts,
Loosening my trucks,
Brushing off the dogshit from my griptape,
Doing squats to test my knee,
Lying to myself about doing cardio,
But so hard to do anything,
Underneath the frozen metal grey skies,
I only want to sleep and dream,
Of possible tomorrows,
Carving away the pounds,
Carving away my cares and regrets,
Under a burning summer sky,
The endless horizon beyond,
Hinting at endless possibilities,
The sacred and profane,
Wrapped into one,
On wheels of urethane,
And seven-ply’s of maple.
