warm deez bones

Like a scared child, he clung to anything that would give him comfort, security. Self-medicated to the point of numbness, scared little boy, trying to shield himself from all the ugliness of life. Cocooned, hiding, reveling in his second childhood, never thought that he was damaging himself, but the damage done is difficult to undo.
He no longer feared any flashbacks, but he felt stunted, living in perpetual childhood. The society celebrates youth, tells you that you are only as old as you feel. Telling you that it’s good to be “young at heart”—but then condemns you if you aren’t mature enough to deal with reality. Make up your mind—show some maturity dammit!!
Cold, freezing, frozen to the bone, silver ring slipping off my bony finger, no extra meat to hang onto. Eating canned chili to warm my bones, with crackers in a package, packed in twos. Head is spinning, body shivering, from hunger, from cold. Cold, tired, hungry, no way to live. Gotta warm deez bones, warm my innards.
