explained

Joe Liles was a good friend of B's Uncle Moose, who was Shiloh's father. The story in Amazing Grace actually happened to them while they were both working for the U of M. They were both involved with getting the Ann Arbor pow wow going--it's now one of the largest in the midwest.
Joe went on to work at the Little Red Schoolhouse in the Twin Cities and illustrated Edward Benton-Banai's "Mishomis Book".
Eddie was also a close friend of Moose's as both were involved with the American Indian movement and Wounded Knee. Moose and his friends were also instrumental in spreading pow wows throughout Michigan and the Great Lakes. They formed one of the first pow wow drums in the area, the HardCorps Singers, and Moose was at the forefront of the resurgence of Indian spirituality.
Joe just happens to be in town for the opening of an exhibit--a retrospective of pow wow flyers that he's done over the last 30 years. It's interesting sometimes, all the connections that exist between groups and individuals . . .
