Shiloh Alvis-Soney
Passed away Friday, June 9th at 14:50 Eastern Standard Time.
She is survived by her children; Taye and Ayden; her mother Sue Soney and grandfather Aaron Soney. Her father, Charles Mouz Pamp and both her grandmothers preceded her in death. Her nephews, nieces, brothers, cousins, aunties and uncles in Ontario, Alberta, Michigan and Colorado will miss her greatly.
I used the name “Cheyenne” in my blog—but her real name is Shiloh. We all called her “Shi” and she was “Auntie Shi” to my kids. She was also my little Nan’s weeyan; she was a sponsor at her naming ceremony---akin to being her godmother or a second mom in Anishinaabe culture. To my wife, she was more than a cousin--she was a sister.
Shiloh just turned thirty last month. Shiloh was always smiling and joking, always had something nice or uplifting to say to all of us. She was one of the kindest, most easy-going people I have ever met and I will miss her greatly.
Funeral and burial will take place on her mother’s reserve—Walpole Island First Nation, also know as Bkejwanong—“where the waters divide” on Tuesday, June 13, 2006.
