garage daze

Clearing out the garage little by little,
Trying to make room for the wife’s car,
Save her some time in the morning,
Not have to worry about clearing off snow.
A secondary consideration is skating,
Need to build a quarter pipe,
Maybe a wooden bank as well,
For the frozen snowy days of winter.
Or the wet cold days of spring,
When we’ll be anxiously awaiting,
Wanting to hit the skatepark,
But stuck inside due to rain.
Winter has been slow in coming,
Fifty-degree days in December,
First snow-less Christmas in twenty-three years,
Some blame El Nino, others say global warming.
The seasons seem askew, something not right,
Not sure who or what is to blame,
Could just be normal fluctuations,
Or could be the beginning of the end.
Does this mean it will snow in April,
Will the summer be short and wet,
What does this bode for our future,
What gods must we appease?
I don’t mind spending time in the garage,
All alone or with the kids, Rummaging and cleaning,
Separating and sorting, planning and scheming,
I need my own space, need to keep myself busy.
The house feels far too small, too much clutter,
Nowhere to sit, nowhere to stretch my legs,
Kids and junk underfoot at every step,
Cabin fever starting already, cold days still ahead.
Wearing my old pea green goose down,
Not good for anything but mucking about,
But the garage feels so warm, no wind,
No insulation, but still seems so warm.
Working on something, sipping on a beer,
Smoking cigarettes as I wander about,
Out of the wife’s hair, listening to music,
Two-car garage plenty enough room for me.
